* Wintering cranes in Izumi
People
Human's Storycranes and the culture Cranes have appeared in folk tales and fine art since olden days. This corner introduces the auspiciousness of cranes and their contact with people. [major exhibits ・films] There are films of four stories inculding "The trial of a crane killer", "Hot spring for cranes ",and warm-hearted Japanese and overseas presentations on cranes made with various filming techniques such as rotating three-dimentional screens. The crane motif is used on pottery pieces and handicrafts, hanging scrolls,folding screens,kimonos,stamps,etc. Town Country's Storycranes and history Cranes seem to have been migrating to Japan from long ago. They apper in natural history journals of the Edo era, probably because they are large and standout. This corner exhibits presentations of cranes living contentedly in Izumi. Fifteen varieties of cranes from all over the world are also exhibited. [major exhibits ・films] Displays include 15 varieties of cranes from all over the world, 4 multi-media units placed around the three-dimensional floor map of Izumi that can display information on nature, histric sites and cultual assets of Izumi, and "history poles" that explain the fluctuation of crane numbers together with historic explanation. Nature Nature's Storycranes on the earth Different varieties of cranes have different environments and ecologies. This corner shows how cranes raise their offspring in the continent, how they spend a day in their winter home"Izumi", and the mysterious physical traits of cranes. [major exhibits ・films] A film called"The cranes' day in Izumi" is a cranes' drama introducing their actvities from dawn. Another films entitled "Monitoring of cranes' behavior" shows six patterns of behavior such as grooming and dancing. There is also a documentary film called "A year of cranes ". In addition, there are stuffed wild birds ,"a special organ using cranes' voices" and " a crane nest" collected in Russia.
